You can use any culture you like. I'm sure there are valid points of
connection. I just wanted to point out the imperfections of the metaphor.
Heck, you could make a valid comparison between the OU and the gaming
community.
1) Both have people at varying degrees of involvement, from the guy who
spends thousands on his 40K army to the guy who plays a couple weekends a
year.
2) Both have a sense (at least partially justified) that the mainstream
culture regards them with a mixture of contempt, puzzlement and malevolence.
3) Both have arguments and issues that make absolutely no sense to
uninvolved people. ("D20 sucks!" "Does not!" "Does too!")

If the reinstatement of capital punishment was clearly doing nothing to
reduce the number of murders in those states permitting it, it certainly
appeared to be cutting down on the number of confessions.
