Eh, I thought it was okay -- not bad, not great. For me, the ultimate
criticism of "The Secret History" has to be the guy who says (I'm
paraphrasing) "Tartt spends the whole book building around this grotty knot
of violence and kinky sex, and then never shows us the sex. Thanks Donna.

I put in an interlibrary loan request, though the Amazon review that likens
it to the single worst book I've ever read completely -- DF Wallace's
"Infinite Jest" -- makes me very nervous indeed.

If the reinstatement of capital punishment was clearly doing nothing to
reduce the number of murders in those states permitting it, it certainly
appeared to be cutting down on the number of confessions.
