So, what you're saying is that you've doomed us all by sending us this email?

This reminds me of various ancient myths (more or less the same myth occurrs in various cultures: Egyptian, Greek Japanese, others I think) about the creator of writing being blamed, because people would use writing and lose the faculty of memory. Considering that ancient bards could memorize the whole of the Iliad and the Oddysey and several similar length poems, I sometimes wonder if it isn't true. Anyway, I'd suggest thrwoing in, as a downside, that people who are aware the object of the spell remember it with supernatural, perhaps obsessive ccuracy and strength. So the cop can't keep any records about the gun, but he won't forget about it and will begin to fixate upon finding it and the wielder thereof. So the user of the spell isn't totally free and clear, and is perhaps not muh better off than before, depending.
