We kicked around an idea about a story in which characters were being identified with certain cards and manipulated to fall into spreads of the true deck. Seems like you could come up with a card game that offers this, as well as the shifting alliances kind of play that On the Edge featured. The key cards would be trumps, and they would govern how the other character and
effect cards worked. Anyone can put any trump over anyone else's trump at at any time, sending everything you're doing ass over teakettle. That would have a good UA vibe.
