Mine would have lots of Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and Elvis Costello.
Specifically, I'd definitely want to include the Christy Moore cover
of EC's "Deportees Club" which always puts me in mind of a late-night
encounter between a dipsomancer and a pornomancer, with lines like
"there's a fading beauty talking in riddles / Rome burns down and
everybody fiddles", "It's a bitter charm but the lady's had enough /
Her pillow talk's nothing more than talking shop", and especially
"There's a thousand years of history drowned in a whiskey glass."
