You are right, Kevin, I'm using the two terms (sleep paralysis and sleep
apnea) interchangably and that is wrong. Sleep paralysis is one of the
symptoms of sleep apnea, in some patients, that is if you are an apnaeic,
you are more likely to be hag-ridden. This may be because some apnaeics
have a disturbed sleeping pattern, where they wake up briefly at the end of
one of the spells of stopping breathing - and are paralysed by the sudden
waking.
So, to say that -again- sleep paralysis is an almost universal condition, we
just forget it, like a dream. About 15% of people report having had it, but
I think that survey was for hypnogogic hallucinations.
