Here's an idea for gaming groups that always have trouble with people not showing up consistently (a plague which killed off several campaigns I've tried): have Mitch as an extra character for people to play. They miss a session, it doesn't matter, since he doesn't know what happened anyway. You want to introduce someone to UA, but are in the middle of a long campaign and don't want to interrupt it? Have them play Mitch, who's been previously introduced. The player and character don't know what's going on, and the other PCs have to help Mitch through his life. If no one is present to play Mitch, he's a GMC for a day. Of course, different people would end up giving Mitch somewhat different personalities, which could be dealt with as other psychological problems with him or some such.
