How the hell would you get trained as an adept either?  I figured that the 
Avatar stuff was like the "easy" magic since you don't have to get 
initiated, only become who you are.  I understand the IC being unknown 
because it's really vague as to what it is, and I can see how quite a few 
folks in the OU who aren't in CoNG would be completely out of that loop and 
think avatars and adepts are just different paths.

But it's important to know what you are up against and who be on your side.  
Hell, once an adept pieces together the rules (paradox, taboo, obsession) 
they would probably have decent mental images of other schools just by using 
logic and thinking about it a whole lot (assuming a magic obsession rather 
than a school-centered obsession).

The things in my UA game that deviate are AA syndrome with several of the 
occult groups, especially the sleepers, and false knowledge floating about.  
But everyone has heard of the Naked Goddess tape and the sleepers, but noone 
in my current game has encountered them at all.  Hell, my GM may have set 
them up as an urban myth among the OU just like the Atlantean origins of 
Cliomancy.
