Somehow, if i ever tried making the Catholic Church the villians in a game, it would end up more farcical than I'd want (provided the game wasn't, say, Hol or a particularly blasphemous session of Toon).  If I were going for a ludicrous version of the Vatican, I'd be stealing in great quantities from the (now defunct, I believe) comic book Ragmop, which features bits like Cardinal Assassinini (hitman for the Pope) and the pope is a James Bond style villian called "Godfinger".  

I'm surprised no one mentioned The Order of St. Cecil in this discussion yet.  (BTW: who was St. Cecil?  Was he a real saint?  or, if he's fictional, make up some cool background for him)
