I always liked the Dirk Gently approach of getting around.
Just follow someone who looks like he knows where he's
going, and you'll end up where you want to be.
I tried that in Wilmington. I was going to the train
station, and I followed a woman who looked like an
office-type traveler. She did not go to the train station.
I was sorely disappointed and glad that I left half an
hour early so that I could become unlost.
I bet that if I jumped off a building I couldn't fly like
Superman either. Stupid books.
I know there was some comments on the magickal school of
travel, but what about "mundane" supernatural occurrences?
The forces acting upon travelers are too subtle to notice,
so we're not even aware that we're being led.
I myself find myself amazingly capable of successfully
wandering into familiar terrority when I'm lost. Is it an
internal compass, dumb luck, or the energies in the road.
I even found my way to the Newark airport when I missed my
exit and ended up in a neighborhood best left unexplored.
In searching for the highway (which is not easy in New
Jersey I learned), I stumbled upon the airport itself. I
wasn't going for the airport. I wanted to get back on that
interstate. In searching for the route to my destination,
I stumbled upon my destination.
I hope there's no price for my luck. Maybe I already paid
it by foolishly taking the Express too far.
