You didn't watch it closely enough.
See, the key thing is to observe how the events in the land of the
Gorgs and in Doc's workshop mirrored each other, with Fraggle Rock as
the the medium by which the reflections propagated back and forth.
Clearly the Kingdom of the Gorgs is the Statosphere; the residents
there are the raw Archetypes, which are not as distinct as we think
they are, but instead manifest oddly -- hence the True King was
variously Pa Gorg and Junior Gorg; the Mother was Ma Gorg and the
Trash Heap; the Herald was variously Philo, Gunge, or Junior Gorg;
etc. -- different Archetypes became dominant based on what was
happening in the part of the Real World we observed (the Workshop).
Doc, in turn, was indeed a Mechanomancer, and Sprocket one of his
creations (hence his not-entirely-doglike behavior); he was also an
avatar, closing fast on Ascension -- the series was a metaphor for the
progress of an Avatar, and it ends with his symbolic Ascension.
The Fraggles? Clearly, the Shining Ones, manifest as the messengers
between the Statosphere and the Real World. The Doozers are the souls
of the Dead who accept their fate, and enter symbiosis with the
Shining Ones, building pointless structures which the Shining Ones
forever destroy, to remind them of their place. Those doozers who
reject this are either innocently tormented by the Shining Ones (e.g.
Cotterpin Doozer) or else become pathetic wretches (the Cave Doozers).
Of course, the *truly* disturbing thing is the suggestion of division
within the ranks of the Shining Ones, in the form of the Orwellian
"Other Fraggles"...
Why, yes, I *have* watched the entire Fraggle Rock series recently,
what tipped you off? :)
