I've thought about the idea of math/numbers magick a little, too, trying to
think of what might constitute minor, significant, or major charges. My
thinking was perhaps solving a series of complicated equations for a minor;
solving a _lemma_ (Is that the correct term? I believe it refers to a major
turning point in any very complicated math equation, the kind of thing
people work on for months at a time) for a significant charge; and
developing a very famous equation (E=mc2) or solving a particularly
outstanding math problem (Fermat's last theorem)for a major charge.
I also thought about the taboo for a classic mathematics school, which I
thought might involve _not_ using numbers outside of a ritual context, ie.
no using phone numbers, social security numbers, credit cards, addresses,
etc. It would be such a great taboo, in fact, that actually being an adept
of the math/numbers school would be almost impossible in a modern society,
hence the reason for its extinction.
