I don't know about removing the blast, exactly, I put
it there for two reasons.  

First, it fits perfectly with my conception of how the
school worked, and was based on the reaction anyone
would have in that situation.  
Secondly, users of the school will be much more
helpless than most other adepts in a fight anyway, so
I need *something* to keep them from dying in their
first struggle.  

Maybe instead of a blast I should redesign the formula
spell to be more like "house of mirrors", except with
people coming to your defense instead of hitting the
wrong target, or something like that.  It's halfway
there anyway, so why not?

At least I seem to have shed the Archetype of the
Ignored Poster (taboo: post something interesting or
worth responding to) for a while.
