There are women in the mafia, just like there are women in the FBI.  There
aren't very many.  But the ones who are active players are without a doubt,
more dangerous, colder, and even more calculating than any man.  A friend of
mine worked with an organized crime unit.  They were told to, when violence
breaks out, shoot women first to kill for just that reason.  

I'd make life hell on any women, mistreatment, skipped for promotion, etc.
but give them twice as many hardened notches to start as they buy for their
trouble.  If they've gotten anywhere, they're that hard.
