There's horse-racing and greyhound racing here in Portland, Oregon.  I've 
heard that you can go down to the greyhound track and 'adopt' greyhounds 
from some of the dog people I mingle with at the park.

I'm kind of amazed I haven't seen anyone discussing the state lotteries on 
this list; they make a sizable contribution to the different state's 
budgets.  But then again, I haven't been paying too much attention.
