It does. As soon as the poison is released, the cat observes it (by dying)
and the wave function of the poison & atomic trigger collapses. Same with if
the poison isn't released, as the cat knows it's alive.

The state's just unresolved for the rest of the universe. Inside the box
everything is intuitively normal
