[UA] Dueling Banjos

The way I see it, the large number and close proximity of people in cities
is part of what seems to foster the sort of attitudes I'd link with
*postmodern* magic.

Older magical forms seemed to be fostered by being outside of large
communities, but the more recent styles seem to be brought about by the
hives of commuity themselves; perhaps they are a sort of almost allergic
reaction to too many people and conflicting ideas all being pressed
together into a conglomerate mass that imposes rules and structures upon
itself.

Even the most issolated practitioners I can think of are on the urban
fringe, their obsessions festering despite, or because of, the boil of
humanity nearby. Its all part of the paradox of magic, the way I see it.
The power of contradictions.

While I admit to the mystical and occult nature of the rural setting, I
think that type of occultism is old world. While I fully intend for my
game to touch on that, I think the stuff of the "postmodern world" is,
almost by definition, related to cities and urban sprawl and the
contradictions in our societies.

So for my money it would be a shame for UAs publications to move too much
away from modern urban life.

I'm more interested in a place like Tokyo (so urban and containing places
of such tradition and contemplation - its all contradictions) than the
fields of Iowa... :)

Take care,

Liam
