Indeed.  The Brooks quotes are "If I fall down stairs and break my arm that' 
tragedy.  If I fall into an open sewer and die that's comedy."

Mel also points out that when people say "I'ts funny because it's true," 
what they really mean is "it's funny because it's happening to someone 
else."
