Who was the writer who said "If I couldn't write, I'd be running down the

Honestly, it wouldn't take too much persuasion to convince me that horror
writers in particular have a "whistling past the graveyard" element to
their work. I'll write about stuff I don't want to read about. I put my
character through all kinds of nasty shit because it makes me feel (at some
primative level) that doing so makes it less likely to happen to me. "No
no, Fate! You don't have to torment me! Look, I respect your power! I
told this story about how horrible your wrath can me! Look at now Neal
suffers! Look at how Renata suffers!"
