It's not silly. I've used this before. Humans usually resolve images they aren't
paying attention to into familiar patterns. Lots and lots and lots of
information is strained out by this filter. I have a handful of NPCs that are
skilled at projecting nothing identifiable across that filter. They're not
obfuscating, or clouding the minds of men--they just fade far into the
background. Occasionally a character will pick something up. A mole or a chipped
tooth. Afterwards, that detail is overwhelming to the point of distraction, or
eventually obsession. I've run several variations on this theme, including
slo-mo dreamlike sequences where I spin out on the tiniest details of every
member of a crowd in my best hypnotic cadence. Those freeze shot & rotate
commercials combined with Sergio Argones two-page spreads. The players freak. At
first, they don't know if they've been drugged or what. But reality filtering is
becoming sort of a theme in the campaign and they're getting better about
keeping their eyes out for it.

I think Katie Couric's hot.
