I dunno.  If you're immortal and you're on earth and well, you're the one
with the fork (for certain values of huge planet destroying forks) then
why ascend?  Yeah, you get power over the world, but you've already got
that; you get to mess with people's lives, but you can already do that;
you'd be stupidly powerful, but well, hey, you already are.  Equally if
you're immortal you can't be usurped by another immortal and you're
definitely one of the biggest fishes in the pond.

If you ascend you're setting yourself up as a big target, a very hard one,
but a target none the less.  You've aloso got a lot of competition from
all the IC that have been doing it longer than you and who disagree with
you motives/methods.

Yes, the major up is that you get to decide the shape of the next
incarnation, but if I was the Freak I'd either hold off completely or
leave it until as late as possible.
