[UA] Avatars

Avatars are something that I'm still getting my head around. I've gamed for

years (decades?) but I'm still new to UA.

This is as I see it, please correct me if I've gotten something fundamental
wrong.

Originally (this incarnation) there were no IC (i.e. all 333 slots were
empty). The
vast majority of people lived their lives assuming the various roles needed
to
live their lives.

A _very_ small minority of people "got in to" a particular role to the point
that it
completely took over their lives, they _became_ that role. These were the
original IC. None of this was done for mystic power, because there was no
mystic
power to be had (at least until you ascend, and who knew that would happen).

You can't get power from channeling an archetype that doesn't exist yet.

Once there were some IC, the people following their paths gained the power
of
the Avatars, and became 'more powerful' than non-Avatars.

Eventually, someone realized that becoming an Avatar was a path to power and
became the first conscious Avatar.

Currently there are probably lots more unconscious Avatars than conscious
ones.
But the conscious ones can (almost always) rise in power much quicker than
the unconscious ones, thus tend to have a higher level.

As for the Suit or Skin argument: I see all unconscious Avatars being in
the
"Skin" camp, they need to BE their archetype to have enough mystic juice to
push them over the edge. As for conscious ones, I think that going through
the actions can work, but someone that thinks the part has an advantage,
if only because the break taboo less often.
