Just some off the cuff ideas...
Like Ben Brighoff, my instant reaction to this was "Hey, poker". Guess that's
what you get for using five dice in your example.
But that's cool. I wouldn't advocate going the whole poker route - too much
needless complication - but there's something there. Essentially, you're trying
to create sets of numbers. Not just sets of the _same_ number, but others -
runs of numbers, say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, for example. Perhaps you could have
abilities that allow you to adjust one or more of the numbers to get a better
set. Or is that still too complicated.
I should say that I like the idea of finesse and power as well, it's just that
the poker thing leapt into my head and kept on running :-)
