Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I think I
just figured out something that I was wondering about
for a while; What was Norton channeling? First I
though The Fool, but it never quite made sense, then I
had my idea.
Let's look over the evidence.
1. He was a highly successful buisnessman.
2. He lost everything in a bid to corner the rice
market.
3. He disappeared off the face of the earth for
several months.
4. He comes back a changed man and declares himself
Emperor. People like him and give him everything he
could want for free. He shows no signs of attempting
to gain worldly posessions. He behaves in a manner
that shows no sign of self interest. Despite all
this, he seems to be just as sharp as he ever was
except for the fact that he is clearly nuts.
>From all of this it is clear that he was a avatar of
the Merchant, a fairly successful one, who when he
lost everything got sent to the HoR for a while. The
changed Norton is channeling some sort of reversed
Merchant, with the following powers: He gets things
from people for nothing (thus a reversal over the
focus on exchance) He often acts in a selfless
manner. But despite all this, he retained his
Merchant-like persuasive ability and charm.
So, what do you think?
