UA Combat Options
Although the UA rulebook has a simple, but exceedingly
efficient set of combat rules, some GM's, (most
notably myself), enjoy a bit of extropolation
regarding detailed combat. And while I detest random
hit location tables, I do so enjoy Called Shots - the
ability to aim for a specific body part. The Rules
give a blanket -30% off any trick-shot the PC/GMC can
make. But because I am an unrepentant system-hacker I
dragged out some rules that I occasionally use (most
recently dusted off for CoC), and customized them for
UA.
These rules are designed to be used sparingly, an
occasional fire-fight between bizarre govermnent
agents and the PC's are all that's necessary.
Line-of-Sight
If the character has Line-of-Sight to the Target
Location halve the Skill Penalty. The character must
aim at the target for the two rounds to get the LOS
bonus. A sophisticated, calibrated aiming device
reduces the aiming to one round.

*The attack still fails if the character rolls under
30%.
Body Location Damage
Treat each location as having the same Wounds as the
body total. The body total receives no increase, only
that specific location. Damage to a body part is
modified by adding damage, as per gun shots and
hand-to-hand damage rolls, after the shot is
considered a success. The bullet total can never be
above the Total damage score of the bullet, but the
bonus hand-to-hand damage is gravy, and is added over
and above. Even above the damage ceiling.
Fraction of Wound total suffered to body part
Quarter None
Half Halve skills using that limb.
Three-Quarters* Unusable, halve all skills.
Total** Destroyed, dangerous blood loss.
*Roll Body stat or fall unconscious for 1d100 minutes.
**Character will die due to trauma and blood loss in
1d100 minutes.
A Hard-Arse called Hong "Hong Kong King" King does
stunning Gun-Fu on Dennis the Pennis. He squints and
takes a shot at the Pennis's head. Hong King rolls 39
under his, let's say 70% John Woo-Woo Gun-Fu skill,
and his weapon is a Personally Customized series of
Hand Cannon with a max damage of 70%, Hong King's
bullet will do 39% plus 12% (3%+9%) for a total of 51%
as wounds of damage to Dennis the Pennis's head.
Friendly fire and panicked gunbunnies.
When all high-calibre hell breaks out how does the
addled games master give that sense of danger of
whizzing bullets and daring-do running for cover.
These rules are not designed to kill just keep the tin
roof a little too hot for comfort.
For every gun-totin miscreant throwing off a misfire
add +10% to the Friendly Fire Pool. Add +30% for a
full-auto assault rifle or similar piece of
bullet-ejaculating hardware.
Once the pool is calculated the idiot running throw
the warmed and leaden hail of death receives a check
from the GM. The GM rolls the FF pool as a ghost
skill. If the FF is successful the character is hit by
a random fire. The GM can also roll the hit location
table for added effect.
Basic FF damage is merely a graze and the dice are
added together as if they were hand-to-hand damage.
If the GM rolls a matched pair the damage is as a
normal projectile wound with a Max Damage ceiling of
60%.
A GM is allowed to add any Cherries from a matched
pair - such as tripping over, blinded, unconscious,
bleeding.
If the ghost skill is failed nothing happens. If the
character is actively ducking and darting for cover
the FF pool is halved. If the character stands up to
deliver a monologue, he gets automatic projectile
damage and a cherry. Serves 'im right.
Exotic Damage
Use common sense. A character hit on the head can be
blinded, knocked cold, or dazed. A bullet through the
lung means the character can drown on his own blood. A
gut-shot will mean the character getting poisoned by
the toxic shit entering his body via his
bullet-ruptured bowels. Not nice at all. Kinda like a
drawn-out-drowning where the rounds are stretched into
hours...
That's all, folks. be careful with them pistol-irons,
now!
Cheers,
Chris.
