[UA] Screams from nowhere

In the version of this I heard somewhere, the father isn't screaming,
he's just calling out for his kids, and the calls get fainter and
fainter over a period of weeks...
Stories like that do freak me out. Getting killed by falling down a
mine shaft or shot or whatever is fine - the danger there is visible
and understandable. Just suddenly taking a step and vanishing...eeeh.
