Vernor Vinge's True Names is also one of interest - both the original
story (in _True Names and Other Dangers_) and the later nonfiction
book of the same name. Timothy C. May's Cyphernomicon may be of
interest also; see http://www.oberlin.edu/~brchkind/cyphernomicon/.

According to amazon.com, the paperback is available now - it came out
in May.
