[UA] Proxy Objects

My UA game is finally getting underway and I've got a bit of a dilemma. 
First some background:

1. I hate my friends. The various DnD3 games that run around here have got 
6-9 members apiece in them. But when I try to start up some UA, I get two 
people to actually make characters with one other contemplating making a 
character.

2. Both came up with appropriate characters I think. One is a 
Plutomancer/grifter type who was sold into white slavery as a kid. It's my 
belief that he's based loosely around the character from the old Fox show, 
Profit. The other is modeled loosely after Pellinor and the Questing Beast. 
You see, every man in his family has been killed by The Gun within six 
years of fathering a child. He believes that this gun is The Gun, the bane 
of his family. It is his job to track this Gun down and destroy it so that 
his family won't die out. Now, I could go with the reasonable explanation 
that this guy's crazy and just because his family has all been killed by 
guns doesn't meant there's a 'magick Gun' out there doing it, but that 
seemed sort of boring. My other thought that perhaps it wasn't a Gun, but a 
Gunman, an Executioner Godwalker type hunting his family to extinction. Or 
a demon with a grudge to settle.

But then I had a thought: can you do a proxy ritual on an object, making 
any gun The Gun? What would be involved in such a ritual?

Any thoughts? I'm still toying with the basic concept so any ideas are much 
appreciated.
