Bryant,
-Definely plan your trip around the food. The fun will follow.
-Court of Two Sisters is good.
-The Gumbo Shop has a brilliant X-mas menu. Very reasonably priced.
-There is a place to eat cajun food called Ralph and Kacoo's, near the
brewery. Try their seafood gumbo. Reasonably priced.
-Go to Jaeger's on the Lakefront for a happy hour meal. Get crabs and
other seafood. Hopefully you'll get the struttering little guy my
friends charitably call the "Crab Nazi"
-Be sure to do at least one night on Bourbon Street, so you can say
you've been there and done that. Take the black and white pictures at
Pat OBrians. People all the world over will recognize those if they've
been there. Drink one Hurricane. More than that is nasty. The clubs I've
had the most fun at are Cat's Meow and Club Razzu.
-If your budget can afford it. Take the ferry and dine at Algiers
Landing. The view of the Mississippi with the big ships and tugs plowing
past is not to be missed.
-Jazz brunch at the House of Blues.
-Go on a SUPERVISED tour of the cemetaries. The cemetaries are right
next to the housing projects (and a great place for muggings). I could
be very wrong, but better safe than sorry. The guilds are relatively
knowledgable.
-There is a plantation home in the Quarter called Gallier House. It's a
great trip back to the Old South.
-It you can get a car, hop down to Grand Isle for the day. The gulf
coast is tops for fishing and bird watching. Be sure to chat with the
locals. In fact, pocket a tape recorder-you won't be able to recreate
that cajun accent for your friends. Eat crawfish at Little Eagle in
Golden Meadow. This is a gas station, but has the best crawfish I've
ever tasted.
-Check who is playing House of Blues, Tipatina's. I recommend Cowboy
Mouth, Tiny Town....
-The Audubon zoo is awesome.
More?
