Sadly, it wasn't any kind of "He'll cash your check!" double-entendre.  He
was this guy who ran a stolen-check laundring scheme.  Hence, "the
check-casher."

And if you think about it, he probably had a lot more actual VALUE to the
mob than any hit man...
