Since my future campaign will be set in Belgium, I had
the same problem about change. I decided that I'll change
the value to belgian franc (change is about 1$ = 30/40 BeF)
but I'll make it in a way that the money could be symbolised
by a single bancknote, be it charge or taboo (so a 100 $
banknote = 2000 BeF, since we don't have 5000 BeF notes
anymore).

I wish I could help you more, but i don't know the change rate
between US $ and Australian $. But I think that symbolism is
tied to banknotes, not brute financial value.
