while i agree with you to a fair extent, i think your two "offenders" are a
little unfair. both Castle Falkenstein and 7th Sea are very strongly tied to
"heroic genres" where specifically the kind of behaviour you're putting down
is fairly important. in swashbuckling games, "true heroism" *is* leaping to
the rescue. it isn't meant to be realistic, or achieve any sort of
philosophical depth.
on the other hand, in games that are based on a modern-day outlook (most
horror games and, truth be told, most fantasy games) you've got a good
point.
