Maybe I'm still high from the ether-- er, airplane glu-- er,
from the UA WKRP idea, but I was just struck by just how many
SNL sketches could add significant freakiness, played totally
straight or, worse yet, clued-in:

* Olympia Lunch/Diner (mentioned above)
* The Lupner family
* Goth Talk
* Perspectives, with Lionel Osborne ("It's 4:49 in the AM...")
* Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute
* Dog Show
* Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood
* Coffee Talk with Linda Richman
* Ed Grimley
* the Blues Brothers
* Fernando's Hideaway
* Wayne's World

You could populate a whole campaign with gently tweaked versions
of these freaks.
