The Mystic Hermaphrodite is a great concept. I suspect Tiresias either
ascended and created the archetype or was a godwalker of it. Tiresias is
of the course the blind prophet of ancient Greek myth who lived as both a
man and a woman in exchange for his powers of prophecy. He's featured in
many Greek dramas (Oedipus the King for example) and is in the epics (The
Odyssey).
As for his place in the collective unconcious, it's quite strong. I had a
Greek Myth and Literature class last semester and he was in almost
everything we read. Our college and universities are probably where the
Mystic Hermaphrodite is studied and reinforced the most.
Greg, was this along the lines of what you were thinking for this archetype?
