Yes. John Tyne's Power-Kill or OtE Self-Referentiality MetaPlot are examples of
this - confusing the PCs on who exactly they are, and what the world is really
like. The Illuminatus Trilogy features some of this as well (at least the first
book does) as the reader tries to keep track of which character is which and who
is really doing what. (Is Saul Goodman really Barney Muldoon, or was that
something the Illuminati made him think? Or did the Legion or Dynamic Discord
make him think that the Illuminati made him think that he is Barney instead of
Saul, when he really is Saul... ad infinitum)
I plan to try Power Kill in the future, but I want to wait untill the UnAverse
characters settle down somewhat (currently they are rather scattered both
physically and chronologicaly, with several of them a few days behind the others
due to people showing/not showing up to sessions)
I'll make up the Power kill characters for each of them, and run through the group
therepy first without telling them whats happening or letting them see the
power-kill character sheets (which will be produced by the therapist at some point
in the future as evidence they are insane)
They they can decide if they ar UnAverse characters who occasionally think they
are PK characters, or PK characters who are highly delusional. And they thought
BI3P was hard to comprehend.
Speaking of which, I've just decided the group counselor they have looks exactly
like the Compte st. Germain. That should really throw them. :)
