Even if you were trying to be argumentative, I wouldn't
rise to the challenge. I haven't actually heard this song,
so I cannot rightfully comment too much on it.
This song raised some controversy (which indicates that it
was indeed not a song of the 50's). The feminist line
would have run along the lines of "This song indicates that
you don't love your husband unless you crank out babies for
him."
My take on it is that there are plenty of ways of showing
your love without getting pregnant. I don't even know if
the song is suggesting that it is the only way to show your
love.
Ew. Speaking of which, I just had a tasteless image cross
my mind. Quite grotesque.
Imagine a pornomancer who discovered something new in the
life of the Naked Goddess. She had an abortion when she
was 19. In an attempt to get a sig charge, the guy kidnaps
women matching the description of the NG who are 2 months
pregnant or something. He has a room set up exactly as the
clinic and does the deed himself, constantly trying because
he doesn't have it just right.
Or....he could have kidnapped the actual doctor and forces
him to do the abortions to these kidnap victims.
Even more disturbing would be a female pornomancer who
purposely gets herself knocked up and has the kidnapped
doctor do everything by the script of the NG's life. After
a couple of botched attempts, she probably wouldn't be able
to carry child again. The madness she would suffer through
all this (especially if the doctor was a back alley
butcher) would be enormous.
Okay, time to go throw up now.
