i'd rather think of them as different genres, not necessarily better or
worse (or mature or immature).
ad&d and the like are generally used for games that follow the "high
fantasy, swashbuckling" kind of game. how fun would an errol flynn film be
if he tried to avoid any fights?
while games that consist of nothing but hack 'n' slash are a bit pointless,
i always get a bit tetchy when people start slagging off ad&d. call it
misguided loyalty to my adolescent years :) (and god forbid anyone who
disses WFRP)
anyway, i guess my point is that i don't think it's automatically any more
mature to be sitting around pretending to be a vampire or a wizard with a
gun than it is to be pretending to be an elf or a wizard with a spellbook
