I think I like the idea of the sourcebook for The City. I live in
Seattle, and so will most likely set most of my stories here (and yes,
this is a strange town -- the Occult Underground fits right in here). For
this reason, I think I wouldn't like a Seattle sourcebook too much -- I've
already got my own ideas about how things work here.
But info about what's going on in a specific but undefined place ... I dig
that. I'd feel much freer about working that into my city. Strange: I
know I can pick and choose from the material regardless of whether the
cover said "Occult Seattle" or "Occult Generic City", but somehow I'd feel
like I was getting better value from the Generic City book. Of course,
I'd love an Occult Chicago, but then you'd rile up all the GMs basing
their stories there....
It'd be especially great if the authors (are you listening?) include in
the bibliography a list of real-world guidebooks that might serve
appropriately for their cities of choice (Seattle/Chicago/Austin/etc.).
I'm not thinking a Fodor's or a Rough Guide, nothing that mainstream....
Something edgier, more along the lines of the aforedebated "L.A. Bizarro",
that focuses on the strange and likely-to-be-occult. L.A.'s a special
case, to be sure, but might there be anything out there for, say, Chicago?
