Perhaps "The Expendable"? I realize how trite that sounds, but this is
the sort of person who military leaders (and other "Great" men) feel
compelled to use to further their ends, whether personal or other. If
viewed as the puppet of evil or malicious men, then survival not only
becomes a victory, but also a noble goal unto itself.
