Killer on the Road

Great write-up, but I was surprised there was no mention of the thuggee
cult, who are surely the original Killers on the Road.  They were a secret
sect (hereditary) of Kali-worshippers who would infiltrate travelling
parties in disguise, then murder them for no reason other than devotion to
Kali.  The British wiped them out (1840's?), hanging hundreds and
reeducating hundreds of others in honest trades - hurray for us!
