How about a school of magicians that find 'hidden' meanings in famous
poetry, plays, etc?  TP is big on this - Troilus and Cressida as really
about ghosts, for instance.  The catch/paradox would be that the original
writers never really intended any of those meanings, and the magicians
aren't discovering the occult side of the literature, they're creating it.
