Well, all this talk of Fatty Arbuckle and DB Cooper puts me in mind of one
of my "must reads," the Big Book series by Paradox Press. They're neat
tomes, each based around a theme: Hoaxes, little criminals, bad, the
unexplained, martyrs (a personal favorite), thugs, urban legends (the first
and the best), death, scandal, losers, conspiracy, weird wild west, and, the
most recent one, vice. Each book breaks its theme down into topics, and
each topic is given over to a different artist (usually among the best
working in the industry). I've never seen so much information presented in
such an entertaining fashion before. As an example, The Big Book of Vice
has the following chapters:
SIn Cities
Alcohol
Drugs
Tobacco
Sex and more sex
Gambling
The Devil's Playground (how vice gets to kids)
Anyway, pretty damn cool.
