[UA] New GM solicits opinions on skill

I'm starting a UA game shortly (tonight, actually, in theory). One of
the characters is a sensation-obsessed miscreant; one of this character's
main schticks is taking brutal amounts of punishment. The character is
not going to be a particularly talented fighter. His obsession skill
is Take It Like A Man. The player and I agreed that this would be useful
for things like:

--Not taking skill penalties when a crazed drunk has smashed a bottle
of vodka over the character's head, then thrown a lit cigarette at him,
setting him on fire.

--Not dropping the bomb with the mercury detonator switch when the pit
bull sinks its teeth into the character's leg.

--Getting hit in the nose with a baseball bat and being able to ask
'Was that supposed to hurt?' in a convincing tone.

--Shrug off Pornomancy Blasts. I haven't told him about this one, but
anticipate interesting scenes in the future (he's bought Gets The Girl at
15%.)

This isn't what I have a question about.

He also wants a skill called 'Tough As Nails' that will help him
actually soak some damage (as opposed to take damage and look cool doing
it). I pointed out that he really just wants to buy extra Body, but he's
bought that to 70 anyway.

Anybody who's run a lot of UA combat have any suggestions on how to
work this? My tentative ruling is to that he can roll his skill any time
he gets hit and, if he succeeds, subtract the sum of the dice from the
damage. Then he can take a lot of punches, but still has to worry about
bullets. He's buying it to 15%, if that makes a difference.
