That's how I'd be inclined to do it.

Depends on whether you want to focus on character or plot.  If you want
plot, you focus on the woman because her character remains the same and
creates a dramatic reversal.  If you want character, you focus on the man
because it's his character that is getting challenged by the situation.

If this is at all democratic, I'd vote to have the kidnapping be 100%
mundane.  But I'd hate to stifle anyone's creativity.

That would be tricky to do, I'd think.
