[TRNSYS-users] 4-way tempering valve

Arrate,

Most tempering valves that I am familiar with are three-way (they mix
cold water in with a source that is hotter than the desired delivery
temperature). There is a model of such a valve in the standard Trnsys18
library. If you are using Trnsys17 then there is a model in the TESS
Controllers library or the same function can be achieved using Type11.
To use Type11 for this, have a look at its documentation; there is an
example of setting it up as a tempering valve.

I am not sure what the 4th way is used for in your case. Is it
perhaps to bring the temperature up to a minimum allowable value using
water from a hot source? If so then you might be able to use two
tempering valves in sequence to achieve this. Trnsys18 has both heating
and cooling tempering valve controller models. If you are using an
earlier version you'll need to be a little clever about how you apply
the models' control signals because those models are only set up for
cooling applications.

kind regards,

  David
