[TRNSYS-users] Internal gains in relation to the living area (w/ m2)

Ilyas,

Standards vary widely from country to country (and even
state/province to state/province) depending on the extent (or existence)
of energy codes. In the US ASHRAE standard 90.1 gives recommended limits
for lighting wattage in /commercial /buildings. Some areas adopt this
standard as an energy code and those limits become required limits.
Corridors are recommended to be lit with no more than 5.4 W/m2. Offices
are recommended to be lit no more than 11.8 W/m2. No recommendation is
given for a limit to equipment gains or occupancy gains because these
are too dependent on the use of the room. Typically, though, it is safe
to assume 16.1 to 21.5 W/m2 for plug load gains. ASHRAE publishes gains
from occupants performing various tasks. TRNBuild shows some of these
values in the occupancy gains screen if you click to view the tables.

Residential numbers are more difficult to track down. A program in
the US called Building America has some useful data. I do not know what
resources are available for the European context although I would be
quite surprised if they were not more extensive than what is available
in the US.

kind regards,

  David
