*About the show:*

Big Hair. Big Heart. Big Beats. Big Decisions. Big Risks. Big Change.
Big…Girl. GOOD MORNING BALTIMORE!

It is 1962, and one girl’s dream to be a star will not be ignored. Despite
warnings from family and friends that she will be ridiculed for her size,
Tracy Turnblad proves that her heart and talent are larger than her weight,
her hair, or any naysayers. Along her way to fame, she and her dancing
friends, Penny, Link, Motormouth Maybelle, Seaweed and Little Inez, turn an
entire town and it’s thinking on its head. Fame can come and go, some is
earned; some comes through who you know. What you do with it defines you.
Standing up and embracing who you are can be the most powerful “fame” of
all, regardless of size, color, or age. Based on a true event in Baltimore
history, a popular television dance show, The Corny Collins Show, becomes a
leader in moving forward the cause of racial integration. Just as larger
girls see a role model in Tracy, the appearance of black dancers on
television helps to inspire acceptance, the courage to stand up as a
community, romance, and hope for a better tomorrow. Dance is the common
language that brings everyone together, because in the end, You Can’t Stop
the Beat. Now, Run and Tell That!

Heights Youth Theatre is generously funded by the residents of Cuyahoga
County through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture,
Eaton Charitable Fund, and the Ohio Arts Council.
