host of problems imposed by aesthetic aspirations, use and program, location
and site, immediate external environment, occupant comfort and regulatory
constraints among other considerations. Although most of these are addressed in
design, the external and internal environmental solutions are often not
included, and rarely fully integrated</span><i><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br></span></i></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">This studio, as part of <i>Built
Ecologies</i></span><span style="font-size:8pt"> </span>program at <a href="http://www.case.rpi.edu/">CASE</a><i><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"> </span></i><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">proposes to bring to the
forefront a resolution for environmental sensitivity, both external and
internal, </span><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(23,23,22)">whilst </span><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">addressing the pressing issues of energy and climate at<b> </b>a global and local scale.
The studio employed ecological thought and design process to study, analyze and
design systems at varying scales that are fully integrated, function in a
harmonized fashion and resolve to a balanced architectural solution.</span><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Three students, Xiaofei
Shen, Francesco Bedeschi and Kyle Schillaci will present their final projects
highlighting the environmental analysis and design process integration using
various tools and resultant outcomes. Varun Kohli, Adjunct Professor at CASE,
will introduce the studio.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Varun Kohli RA, LEED AP BD+C</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Varun is the founding partner at Merge Studio
based in New York. He currently heads design projects globally incorporating a
multitude of typologies including commercial, retail, multi-residential,
master-planning and hospitality based projects spread out in the US, India,
Australia and the Caribbean. He has over 18 years of experience with New York
based architectural firms including Beyer Blinder Belle and Skidmore, Owings
and Merrill (SOM). Varun holds a graduate degree in Sustainable Environmental
Design from the Architectural Association, School of Architecture in London and
a Bachelor of Architecture from the City College of New York. He currently
teaches the ‘Environmental Parametrics’ design studio at the Center for
Architecture, Science and Ecology (CASE) in New York City. In the past, he has
served as a guest lecturer and presented papers at international conferences
including Passive and Low Energy Architecture Conference (PLEA), Passive and
Low Energy Cooling Conference (PALENC), Indian Green Building Congress and
others. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Xiaofei Shen</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">In 2014, Xiaofei Shen finished his graduate
studies at CASE, where he researched on Adaptive Ecological Building Interface
System. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Tongji University in
Shanghai in 2012. At CASE, he engaged in parametric modeling and critical
design methodology focusing on high density and ecological environment,
producing truly integrated graphic representations of both analysis and design.
His professional experiences include Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in
Copenhagen and Atelier L+/Tongji Design Institute in Shanghai. He has also
interned with RTKL, SOM, Atelier Deshaus and sciSKEW Collaborative.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Francesco Bedeschi LEED AP, AIA Int. Assoc.</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Based in Rome, Francesco is a founding
partner of the firm Bedeschi & Bompiani Architetti Associati. He holds
Bachelors in Architecture from University of Rome “Sapienza” with a focus on
preservation of historic buildings and he recently earned an M.Arch. II at
CASE. He teaches integrated architectural design and restoration at the University
of Arkansas, Rome Center and is the site coordinator of the study abroad
program of RPI in Italy. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Green
Building Council Italia. In 2010, he founded the Lazio chapter, elected
President, and has been the first coordinator of the Technical Committee for
the development of the Historical Building Protocol at GBC Italia. Francesco is
also the Director of European Projects with SINERGI Integrated Building
Sciences, a US-based company providing sustainability services with a specific
focus in LEED and Commissioning of systems and building envelopes. He currently
manages projects in Italy, Switzerland and Qatar.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Kyle Schillaci</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black">Kyle recently finished his Masters of
Environmental Parametrics at CASE and holds a technology consultant position
for a research group at Penn State university focusing on “collective action
concepts and strategies for institutional design and policy implications with
the end goal of resilient community and ecological design” [<a href="http://polyspace.info" target="_blank">polyspace.info</a>].
Kyle has collaborated with scientists ranging from etymology to Malaria vaccine
logistics in Niger, Africa, using Grasshopper and parametric processes to link
disparate data into cohesive visualizations of system abstraction; that provide
