Description: The presentation will cover the basic science behind healthy lighting and introduce attendees to ALFA, the world's first fully-spectral circadian lighting design software. Topics will include the mechanics of 81-channel spectral simulations, the spectral definition of materials, luminaires, and sky models, and proper use of the software for calculating equivalent melanopic lux (EML) and healthy lighting credits (including those in the WELL Building Standard).
Presenter: Jon is VP of Product at Solemma and lead developer of the ALFA tool. He also contributes to Solemma's DIVA-for-Rhino daylighting plugin. Prior to working full time on simulation software, Jon worked as a designer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in New York and San Francisco, where he applied data-driven methodologies to a number of award-winning international projects. Jon holds an M.Arch with distinction from Harvard's Graduate School of Design.
