The Building Technologies and Urban Systems Division has openings for Postdoctoral Fellows and Principal Scientific Engineering Associates. The candidate will conduct research, as well as develop and deploy new generation modeling tools for building design and operation based on the Modelica and FMI standards. The immediate tasks will be to contribute to research, development and implementation of a building controls design, verification and commissioning tool based on the Modelica language. This includes its integration in OpenStudio and research in how to extend and apply these computing technologies to support research in the redesign of EnergyPlus to base its computing core and its HVAC and control simulation on Modelica.

The candidate is also expected to contribute to growing opportunities for model-based district heating and cooling analysis, design and optimization.
The candidate will work closely with industry to develop technologies for buildings that increase energy efficiency, and improve the comfort, health, and safety of building occupants.

DNV GL - Energy's Sustainable Energy Use group is seeking a Senior Building Simulation Engineer to join our Policy Advisory and Research (PAR) team. The PAR team is comprised of highly experienced social scientists, quantitative analysts, and building scientists dedicated to applying their expertise to understanding and addressing energy consumption issues. The position will be based out of our Nashville Tennessee office.

Tasks May Include

  *   Create and run building simulations, manage projects, act as primary client resource for tasks that utilize building simulation, teach and manage others who create and run simulations, contribute to proactive business development, assist with designing evaluations and writing proposals
  *   Performing energy analyses using advanced spreadsheets and building simulation software
  *   Using modeling software on residential and commercial buildings to develop 8760 load shapes
  *   Conducting multi-variate regression analysis
  *   Managing engineering project teams and directing research activities effectively throughout the project lifecycle
  *   Preparing reports and presentations for clients covering research methodology, findings and program recommendations
  *   Identifying and leading the development of thought leadership and new client initiatives
  *   Imparting knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and evaluation methods
Position Qualifications

  *   Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline to include Mechanical, Industrial, or Architectural required
  *   Minimum 7 years of experience in energy efficiency implementation, evaluation, or administration required
  *   5 years of experience in energy modeling using EnergyPlus, DOE2, or eQUEST essential
  *   1 year of experience using EnergyPlus and/or BeOpt preferred
  *   Extensive knowledge of building science, HVAC, electrical, and other industrial systems
  *   Expertise in measurement and verification (M&V) of energy efficiency measures
  *   Demonstrated ability to manage clients, staff, and tasks to quality, budget, and deadlines
  *   Ability to deliver high quality work products in a fast-paced consulting environment
  *   Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office 2010, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  *   A positive, team-oriented attitude and professional demeanor
  *   Willingness and ability to travel, within the United States, up to 25%
  *   Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  *   We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
